Welcome to the website of the American Association of State Counseling Boards (AASCB), the organization of state boards that regulate the practice of counseling. Founded in 1985, AASCB is the resource for information about counselor licensing and regulation, test development, and standards for licensing. AASCB meets annually at a conference where critical issues related to counselor licensing are addressed by its Commissions. 2011 Conference
Recognizing the accomplishments of the counseling profession in regard to licensure, looking at the current landscape of regulation, and looking ahead to portability will be the major themes of the 24th Annual Conference of the American Association of State Counseling Boards when attendees gather in San Diego, California, January 5-8, 2011.
Building on the networking, resource development, and policy updates from the past several Annual Conferences, the 2011 event, being held at the Catamaran Hotel in San Diego, California, promises to be packed full of the information that members and others need to be effective advocates of counselor licensure and consumer protection. 2011 Call for Programs
Do you have an idea or topic that you would like to share with your colleagues at the 24th Annual Conference of the American Association of State Counseling Boards? If so, consider completing the “Call for Program Sessions” now available by clicking here.
The deadline for submission of the call for programs is Saturday, September 25, 2010. Don’t wait, complete the call for programs now so you can be assured that the program committee will include it in the proposals that they will review.

California Has Become The 50th State To License Counselors
After almost eight years of work and three bills, the California Coalition for Counselor Licensure (CCCL) is happy to announce that the law that will regulate Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors in California took effect January 1, 2010. The California Board of Behavioral Sciences now has a year to adopt rules and regulations. Applications for grandfathering, reciprocity and registration of interns will be accepted beginning January 1, 2011. The grandfathering period is from January 1 - June 30, 2011. Regular licensure will begin January 1, 2012.
